I recently got invited to attend a Redbull camp at the Redbull compound, along with Lance Coury, Rob Edelberg and Levi Sherwood. The camp consisted of 4 days and was basically a way to try to progress your riding, not just in Freestyle, but in all forms of riding.
The first day started out and it was just a day to get used to the place. A few riders never rode there before and plus needed to get their bikes put together. So basically it was a free for all. I started out riding a little freestyle and then switched to the bigger dirt jumps. Then I went over to the Speed and Style track, which is basically a supercross track with a ramp on it. I ended up trying to be like James Stewart and crashed a good one on the first day! I was pretty bummed since we had 3 more full days to go and I was pretty beat up.
The second day we focused more on motocross. The Redbull compound has an awesome motocross track that really is a blast to ride. We rode that for a couple of hours just trying to really fine tune our riding. They also filmed it so we could go back later and watch it and really see what we can work on. In the evening we rode a little session of FMX to just finish out the day.
The third day started out with really focusing on FMX. We got a good practice session in the morning then we moved on to a really fun game to play. Basically, it is H-O-R-S-E but with motorcycles. We ended up playing B-I-K-E instead, but there was 1 rule, no flips! It was a great time to see what tricks we could do but without flipping. It was a great time and Levi Sherwood ended up being the winner. Later on that day we started riding the quarterpipe. I really enjoy riding it so I had a blast doing it. Some other riders haven’t ever hit one before and they all really impressed me how well they adapted to it.
The fourth and final day we were supposed to have a mini contest. All riders would judge, and basically it was winners take all. No 2nd or 3rd places. I have done quite a few contests in my career but this one was actually fun to do. I really don’t have any pressure to do well since, well sorry to say there wasn’t a reward for winning. Levi Sherwood ended up the winner once again. The kid rode great!
That was the camp. 4 days of a lot of riding and riding with some great riders!
